My first painting ever created was inspired by "Morning Sun" created by Edward Hopper in 1952. As a young girl, during a boring class in school, I stared at his painting for many hours, wondering what story lies behind such a simple picture. I also wondered why the lady looked so sad? Why was her room so empty? Was she trapped or imprisoned? Why didn't she just get up and leave? I realized how much I was contemplating the deeper meaning of his painting and therefore the reason why I liked it so much. I was really fascinated by Mr. Hopper's hidden storytelling. Regardless of whether a painting is realistic or abstract we all invent our own stories about it. I tried to recreate that magic with a simple painting of a dog sitting in front of an opened door. He may not be human, he may not have many thoughts, but he knows exactly what he is feeling. He is longing for freedom, for fun, for love and joy. He is longing for "The Outside".
